Fraxel laser is a revolutionary treatment which can treat a range of complaints associated with ageing, including wrinkles, uneven texture of the skin, and even discolouration and scars.
How does Fraxel laser work?
Fraxel is the brand of fractional laser equipment we use. It works by resurfacing the targeted area of skin, leaving other areas untouched, which can lead to a faster recovery time. We are also then able to utilise the machine’s different wavelengths to provide specific and highly targeted treatment to different areas of your skin.
What can Fraxel laser treat?
Fraxel laser is a versatile treatment which can provide a range of benefits such as:
- Improve acne and surgical scarring
- Reduce the size of pores
- Reduce the appearance of pigmentation
- Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
- Smooth the skin texture
- Improve skin’s tone
- Treat pre-cancerous lesions
Does Fraxel laser hurt and will I need time off work?
We’re not going to sugar coat this; Fraxel is not the most comfortable treatment. Prior to the commencement of your procedure, we will apply a topical numbing cream which will remain on your skin for about 30-40 minutes. The treatment itself will then take a similar amount of time. You should not experience too much discomfort during this time.
When you leave, you will likely look like you have a bad sunburn, and you may also find you have some bleeding. You may also begin to experience some discomfort once the numbing cream wears off. All of this is completely normal; please don’t be concerned! You may continue to look quite red on the treated area for several days afterwards, and it is possible you will experience some pain.
The time taken to recover from this treatment will vary from one patient to another depending on multiple factors. We will provide you with comprehensive post-treatment instructions to help you manage your recovery. You may find you will be more comfortable to take time off work during your recovery as you will likely find your appearance is a little confronting during those first few days in particular. However, as your skin heals, you will see the true benefits of your Fraxel treatment.
How many Fraxel laser treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required to achieve the best results from Fraxel laser varies from one person to another, and is heavily dependent on their unique needs and circumstances. We often find that one to two treatments will be enough to provide skin rejuvenation, while treatment for complaints such as scarring may require four to five applications over a period of time. When you attend your consultation at Herstellen Clinic, we will take the time to fully understand your goals for treatment and work with you to create a customised treatment plan to address these.
Caring for your skin after Fraxel
Following your Fraxel treatment, it’s important that you avoid going out in the sun; sun exposure can impact on your results. Please also avoid sweating – this includes saunas and spas, and avoid letting the hot water in your shower spray directly onto the treated area. We will provide you with comprehensive post-treatment instructions.
